Hi all!

Just a quick introduction.

I'm as much of a beginner as a beginner can be!

I have a budget of around £400 - £500 in order to buy a dslr so thought i'd post in the talk equipment section to see what you guys reckon.

I dont have any particular area of interest at the moment so will just be going around London on weekends and shooting everything in site :)

This seems like a great website with lots of friendly and very helpful users.

Cheers

Well since you want to buy a DSLR but you have no preference I would suggest going to any shop that has a wide range of DSLR'S that you can hold see which is the most comfortable for you in you hands

With your budget I would look at if buying new the Canon 1000/1100D, Nikon D3100, Sony A290/A390 or Pentax K-r

I've included this link just to show what out there in your range

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/digital-slr-cameras/b3065

Some of the above come with a lens others don't so that is something to consider

When it comes to lens as you don't really know what you will be shooting I would think you will need what most will call a walkabout lens one that you put on in the morning and don't take off all day :)

It's not really possible to point you in the direction of a lens until we know the body you have gone for

Now it gets really complicated if you start looking at used, because then you have options on old but still great kit such as with Canon something like a 40D etc, so also look at S/H or used as most photographers look after the kit like it's a child so even used will normally be in great condition

Hope this helps

Hello and welcome from me as well. I'm sure you will get some good advice on here.

Thanks for the welcome guys!

Hi Matthew,

Cheers for the advice. Yeah, I've had a lot of great feedback. The one thing i am unsure of at the moment is whether i should get a 550D or 40D for around the same price!
