hi i am new here and i am just looking to buy a new camera but not sure which one it is down to the canon 450d or the 40d what would be the best to get I have a fuji s5700 at the moment

Thanks Russ

40D is better but more expensive :|

What sort of pics will you be using it for?

A.

Hi all sorts of things our kids our reptiles and my friend has just started track racing on his motorbike and I tried to take some on the S5700 but as you would expect they didn't turn out as well as I would like ;)

I would also like to do some landscape photography.

I was swaying towards the 40D anyway

Thanks for the replies

Russ

in what ways did the photos let you down, photography has 2 parts - equipment and technique.
now in no way am i assuming you have no skill but maybe if all that is needed is some tips a tricks it might save you some cash.
On the other hand if it is the equipemtn not up to par then i would say use the 450D and invest in lenses.

can you post some examples of shots you have taken that have dissapointed you, so we can give some help.

Have you physically held one in your hands yet.

if not then go and look at all the different manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, Pentax) and see which feels best for you.

You may be surprised.

I agree with PsiFox, go and handle some in the shop. I thought about a Canon but when I tried one it didn't sit right in my hand so I went for a Nikon which did.

i have a 40d and very happy! with the results, but from your post it might not be a new camera you need just some good advice :) the fujis are pretty dam good cameras usually. What didnt you like about your photos?

I would strongly support the "Go and try it approach.

The camera I'd buy may not be right for you. Both the 450 and the 40 are excellent cameras. I personally wouldn't buy the 450 because I think it's to small for me to handle. Other may and will disagree. It's all down to personal choice.

Also don't forget Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, and Sony. All have good and bad points. Set a budget and see what falls within that. A little bit of research can pay dividends. If you have a photo dealer nearby go there and try the cameras. Remember though the camera is for you not some one else so you make the decision. ( A coffee break before you part with your hard earned cash is a good idea)

hi i have held the 40d 450d 400d nikon d80 and a sony.the 40d felt the best fit for me :D

If you are looking to photograph motorsports the 40D would maybe be a better bet as the focussing system is better than on the 450D.

On the other hand, I am great advocate of getting a lower end body and spend the difference on quality glass. As someone else said, the equipment and technique are what makes good photos. Technique takes experience but if you have decent kit from the off you won't get annoyed and just stick it in the bottom of a cupboard. Buy good gear and it will motivate you to stick at it.

hi there, i just upgraded from the s5700 to a 450d, and although i loved the fuji, i took some lovely pics in new zealand with it, i'm really enjoying the extra freedom of the 450d, i would have been happy to stay with the fuji for a while longer though as it's a lovely camera, now a very happy friend has it
i held a fair few cameras and the 450d just felt right....and i got a good deal on it ;0)
