Hi to all, I am going on holiday later this year and would like to get a general walkaround lens. I currently have a Canon 18-55 + 55-250 kit lenses but don't want to lug them around all holiday as have enough to carry with 3 kids.

The 2 lenses I have identified for this use are the Canon 15-85 and the Canon 17-55, any views which one wound be best for the job?

Hi, welcome to TP

The 17-55 f2.8 is a fantastic lens, if not the Best Lens in the EF-S range.

Welcome to the forum.

You do realise that your 2 lens choices weigh more each than your existing 2 lenses weigh together (17-55 is heavier, 15-85 very slightly lighter, but only by grams)?

If your aim is to cut down on your camera gear weight you would fail, the 17-55 or 15-85 are alternatives for superior picture quality, not really to lessen the load. You are also losing any telephoto, why not just leave the 55-250 at home and you have your small and light kit for the holiday with the same or similar range as your more expensive alternatives?

Thanks TheGreek, the 17-55 does seem a good option. Going to OZ so need a all-rounder that will enable me to have good pics, bit of landscape and a bit of zoom. Really need the 15-85 with F2.8 but that would be probably very expensive and heavy.

Dave1, weight is not the issue here, I just want one lens on the camera instead of swapping that has better quality than the kit lenses and gives good quality across the range. Thanks for comment though as forgot the kit will be in my hand luggage which has a weight limit of 7Kg, so need to be careful.

Was wondering if anyone has owned both and their view on what has the better quality for a walkaround lens for mostly daytime use.
