Hi guys, Im new on here. Been taking pictures for years, but forgot all of it and been swayed by the 'point and shoot' cameras till now. I do have a good eye for shots, but just forgotten how to drive a proper camera.

I am about to purchase a Nikon D5000 and start over again. So be gentle with me. Hoping to get some skills back and learn what I need to know to take good shots. Hopefully going on a course in September which will hopefully blow the cobwebs off.

Want to buy a telephoto lens at the same time to get me going and give me some options.

Look forward to find out everything from you guys.

Ben

Hi Ben, :clap:for choosing Nikon :D you know it was the only choice.

Hi Ben,

If you've not brought yet its worth looking in the for sale threads. I got a lovely telephoto lens from Steve the stinky when I was starting out and its still my fav now.

Thanks for the nice welcome guys.

Yeah after reading on the net for a while the Nikon D5000 just stood out the most, and I thought for what I want, its not quite a newbie camera to prevent me from running out of options, but not too much that I will just keep it in auto all the time. Just want to get back into it and see what I can do. I take its a good choice to make?

I would like to mainly take pics of scenery/landscapes. Got a real fascination with doing long exposure on water etc and would love to take pics of the stars or moon, just really grabs me and would love to get to the point where I could frame my own pictures. Maybe some macro shots too, thats interesting to me too. Thats my goal anyway.

I havent bought yet. I do want to get a brand new camera, but would probably buy a second hand lens from here if the right one and price came up.

What lenses would you recommend for the types of shots that I would like to do?

Thanks everyone :p

Hi Ben, and :welcome: to TP.

As for the D5000, pretty good camera that is ; best of luck with the course coming September. In the meanwhile, you can checkout the various threads here that are just perfect to get you up to speed (many good tutorials posted in this madhouse :p ).
