Hi all,
I'm Sarah, from the UK but living in Spain.
I used to work in IT but am now trying to "get into" photography.
I own a Nikon D5000, a few lenses, a tripod and recently a SB-900.
Sometimes I come up with what I think are quite good photos but they are generally accidents. When I try to purposely come up with a good photo I fail.
I find some of the technicalities quite difficult to get my head around especially when actually out shooting, my mind goes blank and I panic shoot.
I get f-stops, ISO, shutter speed. I have problems with reading a scene, the lighting and working out a suitable exposure. Oh, I also seem to have BIG problems trying to get sharp images. As for the SB-900, I daren't even go there yet!
My short term ambition is to learn to take good quality photos in terms of composition, exposure and focus. Producing something out of the camera that doesn't always need Photoshopping would be good.
My medium term ambition would be to consistently achieve the above and to get a good grip on PP with Photoshop / Lightroom.
My long term ambition is to get to a level whereby I can feel comfortable selling my services as a (quality) photograper. I don't have one particular genre in mind at the moment but I like taking photos of kids, dogs, landscapes and still life.
The biggest question of them all really is do I have what it takes to cross the line from average snapshot taker to consistently good pro level? At the moment I'm not sure I do (I'm really the least artistic person I know), that is what I hope to learn.
So, after lurking on various forums for months now I am taking the plunge and no doubt I will be posting some rather dire images here and there, but all criticism will be well received
Thanks for reading!
