hello everyone, looks like am getting into photography abit more than i thought so i guess this is another forum/ hobby that will end up draining my money once again.

basically a beginner, but am on the look out for the best advice as poss for a starting up camera but not with the big tag, been looking at nikons as i like the look and feel well built. not to sure on spec as of yet but the D40x seem ok. looking at 250 really.

looks like a good froum from what i can see already, am a member on loads of forums and cant stand the noob questions so sorry if i post up some crap.

Welcome fella :) I was in the same boat as you, just fancied taking some cool shots but now I'm considering making some money out of this ludicrously expensive hobby!

Personally I love Canon, but if you have to go nikon then I'd go for the D40 instead of the D40x there's not enough between the two to warrant the extra cash. Extra megapixels means nothing my friend.

Anyway, welcome again :) see you around!

Si

Thanks chocky, thats just the type of info i need i dont know.

Hi Warren :) welcome to the forums.

I can't help much with the Nikon's as I have been using Canon since I started with digital. If you were tempted to go Canon then something like a 350D is built like a brick and is easily comparable in image quality to some of it's bigger brothers (I still use mine as a second camera).

I had a feeling there was some restrictions with the D40 regarding lenses that functioned fully, something to do with the auto focus motor being in the lens not the body....possibly?

It might be worth starting a thread in "Talk Equipment" to get a wider audience as not everyone passes through here too often :)

Thanks jimmy, yeah I think your correct, you have to buy lenses with the auto focus built in as the body's don't have them, I could be wrong it's all new to me.

Thanks everyone
