Hi everyone, I'm a sort of newbie as I am getting back into photography after a break of many years.

At the moment I only have a SONY H50 and 1.7 teleconverter - no laughing now - but will be looking at getting a dslr around Christmas time.

I enjoy wildlife and landscape photography and I am easing myself in gently.

I have had a look around the website and am impressed with what I have seen so far which is what encouraged me to join.

Thanks for reading.

Martin

Hi Geoff, some of the websites I have viewed seemed to think that unless you had a Canon or Nikon dSLR then you were not a photographer, but on here even if you have a pinhole camera they will still talk to you...lol.

As for my avatar it is a Zenit TTL and was the first camera I ever owned...you could stop tanks with that camera, it weighed about a ton and a half.

Hi and welcome to you.

Nothing wrong with the Sony, I have a little kodak very similar to that which I carried about for years when I didn't want to take a SLR or DSLR out.

It's not the size of the ship, it's the motion of the ocean (so to speak ;))

Cheers for the welcome Alison. Actually I am very happy with my Sony.

Years ago I did have a Nikon SLR and lenses when I used to shoot dinosaurs etc, but when I decided to come back into photography again I went to see a friend of mine who is manager of my local Sony Centre and when you can get goods for about half price you dont look a gift horse.......LOL.

Absolutely! But Dinosaurs! Wow, you're amazing ;):D:p

Hi Martin, and :welcome: to TP.

You will find, here, that what gear you use is totally irrelevant; what is appreciated, however is a keen & positive attitude towards photography and all aspects associated with it.

You will also find many who've traded their clunky dSLR and gone to something lower down the food-chain   ... not many attach their egos to their equipment, here :nono:

Thanks Wail, now all I have to do is just start getting out and taking some photo's.

i am not a keen advocate of a dslr unless you are willing to do swap lenses and carry then and then find out the one you have isnt as good as the one the other guy has..or the latest, get dirt in the body and sensor, and have loads of technical problems and love menu's
on the other hand i cant take superb shots on my choice of toys...

as for the zenith..which were made from recycled WW2 russian tanks...:)..i had the photosniper kit for a bit and the james bond enlarger kit they did..

grand cameras and they did a good leica 3f copy...the kiev?

best of luck and dont let the carrot get you...nudge nudge...unless you really want to go that route and have £££££

Hi Geoff, I have been doing a lot of reading up on cameras and lenses etc, and I have also been to quite a few websites and read up on what professional photographers have had to say and to be honest I will probably stick with my H50.

With my 1.7 TC it brings up my telephoto capabilities to a whopping 965mm, I know the quality would not be fantastic but to get a camera body and a set of lenses to cover that distance it would cost an absolute fortune. Also I have severe back and spinal problems so carrying around such a set of lenses as well would be a bit risky for me.

I dont tend to go along with "Oh, I must have the latest gizmo's" etc, if it aint broke then dont fix it, so as I said before its going to be my old Sony H50.
