Good evening everyone

My name is Dave and im new to this forum and I am hoping that people can help me with my photography.

I own a Canon 600D and a few lenses.

I am very keen on photographing waterfalls and running water but I would like to find out how to do long exposures and get the blur effect, hopefully you guys can help and point me int he right direction.

long exposure for waterfalls - the basics are -

you'll need a ND filter
tripod
setup aperture iso and shutter speed (usually 30 secs+), then compose image (you'll struggle to compose with filter attached especially if its a 10 stop), add ND filter - shoot - check output adjust shutter speed or filter to get the right exposure

I have a ND 2, 4 and 8 filters, which do you recommend? I have the ISO at 100

I had a bulb on with some shots, but after 1 sec all I was getting was a white shot?
 
Very much a case of experimenting with shutter speeds to get the shot that pleases your eye. Too slow a speed and all detail will be lost. Too high and the movement will be frozen.
Falling water gathers speed therefore a shutter speed that freezes motion at the top of the fall may show movement at the bottom. Treat everylocation as being unique and shoot a series of shots with different shutter speeds. One will be just right for you.
