Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty new to DSLR photography (Nov 09), had a digital camera for years and had been thinking about getting more serious and getting a DSLR for a while. Then at my sisters wedding, saw the difference in quality between my photos and a couple of guests DSLR's and it made my mind up.

I've got a Canon EOS 500d and a few lenses and have been messing around trying different styles of photography, i've got a long way to go but i'm slowly getting the hang of the different settings and am getting the occasional shot i'm pleased with. I've got a Flickr site where i've uploaded a few of my better shots. http://www.flickr.com/photos/p3thur5t/

I was told about this site from someone i met at Rye Meads Nature Reserve and am looking forward to picking up loads of tips, ideas and advice from you all.

Welcome from Herts! Wheretabouts are you? - I am in sunny Ware/Hoddesdon and spend most of my tog time visiting Rye or Amwell reserves! It wasnt a blonde haired woman who told you about TP was it?

You have some cracking shots already - really like the PP on the self portraits and the ladybird in particular.

You've got some stunning photos on your flicker account and I agree with smoothedit regard to the ladybird.

I met Chris at Rye Meads yesterday and you are local to it! :)
I don't suppose you were there yesterday?
Looks like a mini TP meet for Rye is in order :)

Blonde and female = my mum! She loves browsing TP and does everyday but is too scared to sign up cos she thinks her pictures are not good enough - despite me telling her otherwise and that TP is an awesome way to learn! Suspect it may be a fear of tinternet!

Anyways yeh - Rye sounds good!

Hi, i too am in sunny Hoddesdon. Lived here all my life, 30+ years and i'm ashamed to say i'd never been down to Rye before yesterday. I definitely won't be leaving so long next time and can see myself going there quite a bit.

It was hashcake i met and who told about this site, really glad he did, can see myself spending quite a bit of time on here.

Thanks for the comments on my flickr stuff, always nice to get feedback. Taken a look at yours and i really like the Something Different set, especially the eye, very cool.

Thanks for the comments about my flickr stuff, much appreciated. I see you've got a lot of good stuff on yours and a lot of very nice places as well. Also you've been doing some HDR stuff as well, it's something i've tried to do but not had much luck with so far.
 
Well talk about a small world, I met smoothedit's mother at Rye Meads today and she showed me where a pair of Woodpeckers are nesting :)
Tell your mother I said thanks again.
I know this is the wrong section I can't pm you yet Chris, if either of your two want to meet there on Monday, I will be going there to hopefully see the Kingfishers fledglings leave the nest.
Chris I can come and pick you up if like, it won't be a problem, I don't know if you can pm yet but if you can, give me a shout.

Your mum is more than welcome to join us, I forgive her for being on the darkside :)
I also tried to persuade her to join the forum oh, and do me a favour please, can you pp some of her Kingfisher shots and put them online.
I'd dying to see the quality of the shots taken with her Sigma 150-500.

Monday sounds good, be nice to see if the fledglings make an appearance. Thanks for the offer to pick me up but i think my Dad wants to come as well so i can meet you there. I still can't pm, do i need to do something or wait for it to be enabled?
