Hi all,

My name is Gareth im 26 from Eastbourne (South east, UK.)
I bought a Canon 400D, with the standard lens last year as the year before I was in Italy (on holiday) & I had a bog-standard film camera and some random digital camera my dad bought off one of the pants sky shopping channels. There I was in saint marks square tower (bell tower) and the pants camera packed up on me. So good old film saved the day with my holiday.

But i knew at that point had to buy a decent camera that i hope will last me some time, so 400D :)

I am still a complete noob I say that hands down since Italy I have been to Greece, cousins wedding, London zoo, & Stonehenge. As life i do work and havn't really ventured out with the camera & use the default auto / macro.
but really want that to change so any advice / tips would be very helpful

A few pics of my cousins wedding are here & my best shots of Greece

Hello :)

We'll soon have you weaned off that auto setting!

Had a look at some of your pictures (Greece). think this thread will help you...

^ Thanks for that , yeah i dont pay attention to ROT at all i must admit , now reading that and getting more insight from youtube i understand a bit more.

Thanks , are there any decent books someone can reccomend? or are books a waste of time? The book has to be for a total noobie :D

Hi Gareth

Welcome - the first thing to do is forget about using the camera just for holidays and outings - keep it with you at all times :)

You joined just too late to enjoy an outing to the Bluebell Railway last weekend (see the general photo sharing section) but I think King of Groove is planning one to the Llama Farm at Ashdown Forest at some point.

Books - probably the most recommended is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. I also found his Beyond Portraiture very useful.

Hey welcome, Gareth!

Everyone else is too nice to point it out, but technically it's the 400D you have.
(Otherwise one might confuse you with the Nikon-users who do it the other way round ;) )

^ yeah mybad , i always call it the D400 ..lol no idea why
