Hi, :wave:

My name is Dom and I have always liked taking photographs but I have never taken it seriously as such, just a holidays and family events photographer.

For the past couple of years I was using a HP945, which was a hand-me-down from my Dad and had a lot of fun with it and my love of taking pics grew with using it. I bought myself what I consider to be my first proper camera on Sunday, in preparation of the birth of my second son, a Sony Alpha and although I have only had it a week I thinks it's great.

Having said all this I have to say that my knowledge of taking pictures is pretty low and my understanding of my DSLR is lacking but I am here to learn. If I can end up taking pictures half as good as the ones I have seen on here I will be very happy. :)

Anyway enough waffle from me, hope to learn a thing or two very soon.

Thanks everyone for the welcome :)

Robert, in the past week I have just taken picture after picture mainly in auto, some with manual settings but like you say I will step away from the auto modes, not point in spending on a dslr camera if your not gonna learn how to use it!

I will indulge myself in all the site has to offer over the next few days/weeks in order to gain better understanding of exposure/iso/shutter speeds/apertures :thinking: and all that.
