Hi all! I'm Scotty from Scotland (yes, yes, original start...) I hail from the Scottish Borders, although now live in the South West. I joined yesterday (and may have annoyed a few members - I hope not! ;) )

Why did I join? Well, I realised a few weeks ago that I've taken around 70000 digital photos in the 10 or so years I've had a digital camera, and I have done pretty much nothing with any of them, other than maybe post the odd one of Facebook. I'd say 69000 of those photos are rubbish (yet I haven't deleted them... hmm) but some of the remainder might actually be OK! and still I've done nothing with them....

I was at a stage where I was about to upgrade my D90 to a D7100 and get my D90 IR converted, but I had a MASSIVE crisis of confidence and questioned what the point of my hobby was when I'd done nothing with any of my pics. Why waste all that money?? I haven't quite got past that yet....

Any time I had opened my photos up for critique, I'd either picked the wrong website and didn't get any comments, or I'd picked the right website and didn't get any comments...! I uploaded a few to Flickr, have had some people favourite them, but again, no comments! My pics might be awful, I may be simply not promoting them properly, but I've got massively disheartened with it all :(

Anyway, I accidentally stumbled upon this forum, joined an argument, realised that it looks a little more lively than the other I've looked at, so thought "what the hell! I might as well get involved!"

So there you go! I've already had more interaction in less than a day than I've had in a year on the other forums I'd registered for, so I might stick this out!

D90 upgraded to D7100 now, a mate talked me down. or up. I can now send the D90 off for IR conversion! Don't suppose anyone has any experience of which of the 2 repairers are best for IR conversion in the UK?

Hi buzz, will link to some later! :)

Took my new camera out for a test drive today, and took a fair few IR on the D7100 (not yet sent the D90 off for conversion, so there was no point carting 2 bodies around with me!) I've not had a good look at the results yet, back screen results look ok, but I was working on the basis that better high-ISO performance on the D7100 would allow me to reduce the shutter speed to something less than 10 seconds. One problem I found very quickly on long IR exposures was that light was leaking in the viewfinder and causing a bad interference line across the image - not a problem I had with the D90! It was fine if I covered the viewfinder up though.
