My name's Jahir, Im 27 from Essex. Been reading this forum for a while now...thought it was about time I introduced myself

Bought my DSLR (Canon 500D) over a year ago and joined this forum for some inspiration...night photography seems like a lot of fun and I want to get into landscapes too. Still new to all this so hopefully I can learn from everyone on here and maybe get to meet some people as well who can share their skills :)

BTW hi all!!!

Hello Jahir! Like you, I've been here a while but never properly introduced myself! I do a lot of night/low light photography also, how does the canon 500d handle this?

Hi mate, Ive not done much, just messed about a little with a few light drawing attempts on the kit lens before I knew what I was doing. They seemed to have come out OK. Camera handles the lower ISO's alright, but gets quite noisy on 800 and above but I guess with long exposures you can easily set it below that. Again, all this is coming from a newbie, Ill try and post a photo so you can see.

What camera do you have at the mo?

That would be great. I'm new to photography too and am actually looking to get a new DSLR as at the moment I have a Panasonic FZ45 which I love but I think I've outgrown it now. Been looking at the Canon 500 and 550d but also at the Sonys so that's why I asked about your take on the camera :-)
What subjects do you like to shoot the most?

Hi & welcome to the forum

From a 500D fan (albeit a 5D user)

I was looking at the 550d too but comparing the 2, I realised I didnt need the higher video capabilities of the 550d so ended up going for the 500d (though the 500 does have a few megapixels less than the 550). I think for me, the 500d is a great camera to learn all the different aspects of the SLR with.

I normally take photos of the family, I come from a big family and people are always getting married lol, and sometimes just go out with friends and take random photos. I've tried light drawing a few times and that is real good fun but I'd like to try light trails and star trails. Some of the ones on this forum look amazing.

What sort of night photography do you do? Maybe we can meet up some time and have a crack at some..:)

welcome to TP a very friendly and informative place

Ha I'm sure you get lots of great opportunities photographing a big family! I'm always taking photos of family and friends, they know now that I will be armed with a camera! Lol

As for night photography, I go to a lot of concerts and take hundreds if pics, but the camera I have isn't great with low light so that's another reason I'm looking to upgrade. I also would love to try star trails! So that would be interesting.. We're quite far from each other though I notice!
