Presently using a Minolta 7000 SLR camera and looking to join the digital age. Thought I would join here to get some tips and advice. Thinking of buying a Nikon D5000 with twin lenses to get me started.

Hi Alec, and welcome...

Just a thought - depending on the number of lenses you have for the 7000 - you could have a look at the Sony range, as I believe they'll work with the Minolta AF lenses. I'm no expert on this however, and if you find the Film and Conventional section of the forum, I'm sure someone could give you a bit of advice on that :)

hi and welcome

my first instinct was to get a kit body with one unambitious short zoom..17.5-45 in my case
and make the best of it till you learn the camera menu, operations, and good pp skills
then you will thirst and know what secondary lenses to get..
although in retrospect a wider angle zoom would be a good choice giving landscape and portrature coverage in one item...not so much to carry so therefore less weight
cheers
geof

Welcome Alec,

Hope you find what you are looking for...Are you located in Dunkeld too?

Thanks for the welcome and advice, Shar I'm located in the Scottish Borders.
I have decided on a Nikon D5000 to start off with. Looking forward to getting started and getting back into photoghraphy,
