hey just would like some help on a camera please

im just starting out with D.SLR im going for a canon 400D but im not sure if its worth upgrading the lens to a 17-85mm rather than the standerd 18-55mm, im worried ill be wasting my money on something to good for me to soon, or that i wont actuly need it?
any advice would be good thank you.

The kit lens is pretty average stuff. If you can afford the upgrade I'd go for it only if you are sure photography is for you. As a general rule and a lot on here will agree, get the best you can afford.

I'd stick with the kit lens for a bit to see how you get on with it, focal length wise there isn't a great deal between the two so you may prefer to spend your money on a longer zoom a bit later on

Agree with Wack. Plow the monies into a better lens later on. Get to know your new kit first and then consider add ons later.
