Is anyone here a Heritage Warden? I’ve been asked by my parish council to take the role on and from the scant info I have it would seem to be an interesting thing to do. I’d like to know more from folks with first hand experience before agreeing though! ;)

If it’s a case of recording life in the village by way of photos and notes, I’ve been doing that for years anyway purely as a personal project. If it’s a case of attending loads of training sessions and meetings I simply won’t have time.

I don’t know whether this is a nationwide scheme or just a Leicestershire thing – I found this link on the internet. Some of the blurb, particularly "free access to archives" and "opportunity to borrow field equipment", appeals to me a great deal!

sorry alison can't help but the thought of "opportunity to borrow field equipment", does!, zooming up and down in turbo combine harvester just does it for me!:lol:

<secret handshake> Yup, I'm one. There are plenty of training sessions provided, but no pressure to attend any. My parish council doesn't expect me to attend any of their meetings, which (to my mind), would be less productive than a training session or time spent on a project.

Now wouldn’t that be a wheeze! :woot:

Can’t give you a secret handshake back as I’m not “official” yet! Will the training handbook tell me how? :geek:

Thanks for the info Photon, from what you say this sounds great and I think I'll go for it. Just out of interest (and if you don't mind telling me) what area do you cover?

A small patch near Melton . . .

But that would blow my cover (as they say in Barton-in-the-Beans . . .)
