Just found a brochure for places to visit in warwickshire and spotted the motor museum at Gaydon. Fancy taking some abstracts etc of the cars but just wanted to check that photography was actually allowed - I know how funny some museums can be with it.

Any info would be nice about it and any advice about shooting (if allowed).

I've take photos in the museum at Gaydon.

Filming/ Photography
The Heritage Motor Centre houses the world's largest collection of British cars and is set in 65 acres of Warwickshire countryside offering an attractive filming and photography location. Please note that agreement to film/photograph is by prior negotiation only and any costs incurred by the museum must be covered by the filming company.

Hi there,

I have attended loads of events at the Heritage Motor Centre and have always wandered around quite freely with my camera.

There are some superb exhibits, but be wary the lighting inside is terrible its very hard to work with.

Why not tie in your visit with a one of there themed days, the Supercar Sunday one on Fathers Day is a great event and one of my favourites.

This shot was taken inside the centre a couple of years ago: -

Can you use flash inside the museum? Just got a diffuser so would like to try it out :)

I have used flash on several occasions and never had a problem. The last time I was there it wasn’t very busy and they didn’t object to me using a tripod.
Typical for a museum, everything is crammed in tightly but still well worth a visit or two.

Yep - they let you take photo's - probably for personal use only, but that would need checking.

If you gift aid your entry they give you "fre entry" for the whole year.

It is all a bit tightly packed in and worth a visit.

Coventry Motor Museum is not a million miles away form Gaydon and even better that has free entry :-). it also has Thust 2 and Thrust SSC on display.

I've been to a few conferences there with work, and we've had free time to wander around the museum, it's dark and the cars are packed in, but there weren't loads of staff about and lots of interesting vehicles. Be sure to check out Popbangcolour - his studio is in the corner of the museum, he paints automotive art using radio control cars.

I really do need to get to the Coventry motor museum again, I've not been since I was at primary school!

Diito above - attend regularly on supercar sunday and it's always a good place for photos.

I emailed Donington Motor Museum about photos with my DSLR and they said is absolutely fine, as long as its personal use :)
