Kerso gave me a better price than £1379. You might want to contact him for an up to date quote. From what I've read I'd far rather give Ian my business than SE, especially if he can save me money too :)

You should double check but I think he will provide a VAT receipt and you will get your warranty honoured by Canon UK, which the way things have been looking with the 7D might not be a bad thing.

Not bougt from Kerson ina while but he does provide a UK invoice which is what you need for Canon UK in the event of a warranty claim. And his pricing is usually better than most. Great service and prices so well worth supporting.

I have spoken with RGB a few times before - more for advice really - and always found them really helpful, honest and not pushy at all. They have a proper bricks and mortar shop too (Middlesborough IIRC) but have never been.

Anyway, I bought my D300s from Dan @ RGB on Monday. Good price, UK stock, really well packaged and despatched within 3 hours :thumbs:

They get my vote :D

Here's a roundup of the deals I've found so far, with prices including delivery, and taxes unless otherwise stated....

£1080 from eBay Hong Kong but you should declare and pay VAT (£162+fees) on top and will not have Canon UK warranty;
£1240 from One stop Digital in Hong Kong with no more to pay but no UK warranty support;
£1300 from RGB, if they ever have stock, and with UK warranty support;
£1320 from Kerso, with UK warranty support;
£1369 from Jessops (using Quidco 10% cash back, but be quick), with UK warranty support,
£1408 from Digital Depot, with UK warranty support.

With VAT rises in January adding ~£25 to the price next year I am not sure we will see much of a drop in January, if any. I would think that for stock with support from Canon UK we will not see prices below £1300 for several months, and we're not far off that now, but I'm no economist so what do I know? :)

If anyone knows any better deals then please post.

BTW, I think it makes a pretty good yardstick for the best prices we can hope for if you look at the price at B&H in $, convert to £ and then add VAT. Today that would give you a price of £1190 (call it £1200), which is the best I think you could possibly hope for, but will not likely see. That's why I think £1300 is a realistic target for the best price we might see this year, if you want Canon UK warranty cover.

I think we will see a lot of manufacturers using the VAT increase as an excuse to sneak in a price increase - not just camera equipment but across the board. :shake:

Bought my 5d markii and exta battery from rgb. They forgot to ship the extra battery, I emailed them and they called me back the next morning to apologise and to say the have sent the battery out. Great quick service/support and excellent price, I would recommend them.

Showing as in stock at RGB - http://www.rgb-photo.co.uk/cameras-.../canon-eos-7d-digital-slr-camera-body-p6#1508

and in case it goes out of stock in the next 10 minutes....

Im in no hurry (yeah right).

I will wait until nearer Xmas to see if Canon do anything interesting.

Could really do with a good price on the 7D/15-85mm kit .. I contacted RGB last week and they are expecting stock soon at around £1800.

Just to help, RGB is in Middlesbrough, not far from me, and is a bonafide shop. I have bought stuff including a camera from them in the past

You will have no problems using them

Intersting, it seems that the advantage of using people like Kerso have deminished, which is a pitty. I must assume that is down to the strength/weekenss of the pound

Don't wait too long, VAT going back up on 1st Jan 2010. So thats another approx +£30 to those prices after xmas...

Warehouse Express has a 2% cashback via Quidco as well as the free battery which would cost £50 at Amazon. If you take this into account the deal there is very close to Kerso's.

I want to buy a 7D by Christmas, however I'm in a real quandry as to whether to buy now or wait in the hope of a better deal or risk prices going up if the pound's recent rise against the dollar is reversed.

In the same quandry. Didn't realise WE were on Quidco, thanks.

Unfortunately today mention of the free battery seems to have disappeared from Warehouse Express' website so I think this offer has ended.

Another option is One Stop Digital- they have just reduced their price to £1189.99 including delivery, the snag is that the 12 month warranty is return to Hong Kong. There is a 2% discount for payment by bank transfer though.

If I were buying one now I would buy from PC World who are still asking £1699 and get them to pricematch Jessops which would bring their price down to £1259, [pricematch less 10% of the difference.]

Was in Bury on Saturday and noticed that Wilkinson Cameras were selling the 7D body with a free 580EX II for £1299.00 Seemed like a bargain to me :thinking:

Just beat me to it!

I found a post about this on the internet last night, Bury is closer to me but it's not open on Sundays. I phoned the Preston store to confirm the offer and bought one from there this afternoon.

Canon 7D + Speedlite 580ex II for £1299.00 - Bargain! :)

They did say it's only for 1 week and whilst stocks last.........I forgot to ask when the week started I'm afraid, too excited.

Enjoy.

Thanks so much for pointing this out, I've been to Preston today and got one.

I think they are nearly all gone now though.

It was a 2 and half hour round trip for me to get to Preston.

As it's my Christmas present to myself the 7D will have to sit in its box for a few weeks, I am going to allow myself to have a play with the 580EX II though. Hopefully it will be a useful improvement on my Sigma EF-530 ST DG.

I still reckon the price will drop mid Jan, the vat increase will not have that much impact if any.

My predicted target price for mid Jan is £1150 and a gradual drop to around £1050 after the first half of the year.

We shall see:)
