Henry Surtees killed in a F2 crash at Brands Hatch

RIP Henry.

I did wonder what was going on with the F2 race when they stopped it, there aren't and speakers around the GP circuit so no idea there was even a massive accident in the F2.

Henrys car stopped right opposite me, and I saw the marshalls get to him as quick as possible.

Its been a very long time since I was at a race meeting and a driver died of his injuries.

I have a load of pics from today that I will probably not look at for a long while now.

Absolutely tragic news......Im devastated.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Yep just a freak accident, can't believe it really, always supported him in Formula Renault, and was looking forward to going to the races at Donington soon.

Condolences to his family, can't imagine what John is going through, he races in the deadliest era's in F1, and see's his son get killed in one of the safest.

Thanks for moving this Gary.

I've had a couple of hours now to sit back on the news. It's still not getting any easier. Feels a lot worse as we've been following Henry's weekend. Yesterday was fantastic to see him on the podium, but today I am lost for words. I'm not sure what to do with the shots from the weekend. We were nowhere near the incident but posting anything related just feels wrong to me, even as a tribute.

Gutted.

Terrible news, my Dad has just been up to tell me. A totally freak accident, I feel awful for his family and friends. I saw him at Donington last year on his F3 debut, and was very impressed with him. A young talent lost to us, RIP

Awful news and a stark reminder that the sport so many of us love can still be dangerous despite all the modern safety measures, freak accidents will happen - I saw it on TV as it happened, very freaky and looked pretty bad at the time. Condolences to the family :(

Terrible news, my heart goes out to Henry's family and friends.

Such a tragic loss and from such an unlikely accident.

These people on other motorsport forums trying to point the blame at the F2 car are mad. This could have happened in an single seater race series. What disgusts me however is the lack of care from the series organisers. Still, this morning, several hours after Henry's death was announced, the Formula2 website has not been updated to reflect this awful news, and a statement has not been made from them to mourn the loss of a young driver in one of their cars. They still have the headline: "Henry Surtees Accident Update" which leads to the statement they released not long after the crash confirming he was injured.

Anyway, RIP Henry, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Awful News, like Andy i was there covering him as he lived near Sevenoaks.

Such a massive shame, he did so well for a podium only the previous day. A great loss.

RIP Surtees

Like Gribbsy im not sure what to do with the hundreds of photos i have taken of him from the weekend.

Tragic news for everyone involved RIP Henry
John was at Goodwood really enjoying himself the other week and now this

Sad news indeed.

Having seen footage of the accident I don't see how this can be labelled as anything other than a tragic accident. It could happen another 100 times and not end this way.

Sadly a case of wrong place, wrong time :'(

Such a shame looked like a very promising talent.

That has to be one of the unluckiest accidents ever, 1/10 of a second either way and it would have missed his head.

very sad but at least it was quick, he probably didn't even see it coming

It's 2 weeks since the accident now. Henry's funeral was on Thursday. I didn't want to post any images before, as the last thing I wanted to do was exploit such a tragedy. These aren't for C&C so I'll post them here. Most are from Saturday when he came in for a well deserved podium. I'm still a little uncomfortable about posting them, but this is my way of paying respect...
