I have just joined to maybe get some help. I got married in August lovely day everything great until got the photographers photos. When your gust are taking better photos with their phones and budget cameras than the guy you paid to do a job something is wrong. Not going into any detail as what I want is a professional photographer to appraise and write a report for us as to what they feel is wrong with the photos. I am willing to pay a reasonable fee for this oh and maybe to say if they can fix any of the photos? Tony
 
Are the photos markedly worse than the images in the photographers portfolio? What does your contract say?

I know that doesn't answer your question, but legally whether you think the guests images are better or worse is irrelevant. The important issues are 'what does the contract say' and 'are the images inferior to what was promised' and the only measure of what was promised is the standard of any prior examples.

For nowt, if you pm me a link to the images and the website, I'll tell you honestly whether you've got a leg to stand on.
 
I have not got the images posted any where even the photographer has not posted on his site. We never got a full written contract from him. And yes these images are %100 worse than his sales examples. Also he acted totally unprofessional at the wedding letching at women and girls and also sending us a photo of him in our wedding photos? willing to post a cd copy if that helps?
 
You could Dropbox a selection, and send a link to his website.

I'm sure Phil will be a big help if you can get the images over to him.

Just out of curiosity - when you say he included an image of himself in with your final set, do you mean like a selfie he's taken at your wedding or a promo shot of himself? Either way it's weird as hell.

I know a few photographers who regularly pose with the couple, it's a personality thing.

I had a selfie with the groom once, he insisted because 'you take pictures of everyone else', and we are often photographed by other guests who say the same thing (maybe it's just cos we're gorgeous) :p
 
The missing contract doesn't sound very promising, you could ultimately be unable to do anything regardless of another photographers opinion.

How many times do we see someone appear on here looking for advice with this kind of thing?

I reckon including photos of yourself with the guests or the B&G is ok if that's your thing - especially if it was encouraged or invited by the wedding party. The way I'm imagining it, and going by the OPs described the photographer in question, his photo is more likely to be a letchy selfie outside the ladies toilets.

There are two sides to every story and at the moment we only have the OP's opinion.

I think with regards to the photographer being in the photos it depends on whether they are preview images or part of some final product.
 
There was no preview just final product and no he was not invited by the guest as everybody hated him creep

So was it an album or were you given digital images or prints and how many?

If you're going to be looking for a more detailed opinion you will need to share the images and give much better detail about exactly what you bought, expected and received.
 
So, in addition to what's been said above ...

Why did you pay him without a contract?

How much are we talking about for how long on the day and what delivered (album? files? how many pictures?)?

Why did you book that particular photographer?
 
We took him on local recommendation he came across as a really nice friendly guy we saw his images obviously what he picks out to sell himself and they looked ok. The contract is on the website when you pay the deposit. We received 518 so called edited images on a disc.
 
I'll send a more detailed response to Anthony, but to put things straight(er) for the other pro's here:

The website would honestly have been enough to put me off, the work on it isn't what I'd describe as high quality, however it's better than the work the OP received. Though as we all understand that a website shows 'the best of the best', there's nothing on the site that'd convince me that he was worth booking.

The delivered images aren't what I'd call 'edited', with multiple shots of the same pose, a lack of colour consistency and even OoF images.
 
So OK ... 518 pictures delivered. From how long an attendance and for how much?
 
Sorry, if I've missed this somewhere Anthony, but have you spoken with the photographer yet to tell him that you're unhappy and what was his response?

As far as the original question goes, Phil's seen the photos and his assessment is one of the best you're going to get.
But knowing where you are in negotiations with the photographer might help people offer some advice on next steps and possible approaches to take.

So far the OP has failed to answer a number of questions already and my suggestion would be that if he's looking for some useful information from us that he can work with then he's going to come some way to helping us understand the situation.

I'm not being funny but without any formal agreement there's not a lot that can be done anyway and we still don't know 100% that the photographer is in even in the wrong. I know Phil has seen the images which he suggested don't look edited but I've heard of some photographers asking clients to choose from the unedited ones to determine which should be processed, it's rare but there's the possibility of misunderstanding.

Maybe you should sit down and think about why it was removed.
I'll help
1) there will be a lot of curious little fingers with nothing to do, and click the link.
All of a sudden there will be a lot of hits back to TP.

2) the photographer in question is being slagged off a little, the OP wanted to remain anonymous, that's gone out the window.
I'm sure that he the tog in question, will be along shortly to retaliate.

Neither the site owners or any of us need to be getting involved in a slanging match with an irate wedding photographer from downtown 1995.

Well I'm not surprised you would deny it if I'm totally honest and if anything I have been trying to keep this thread impartial but this forum has a ridiculously stupid amount of censorship. It's been brought up many times before and it will again.

Not sure what that has to do with the price of spuds, but for your and everyone elses information,
we are all conscripted volunteers no payment is sort or inferred.

With all due respect to this and your further posts, wind your neck in. No one forces you to participate on here, it's provided free by the owners and moderated by volunteers. As such, being uk based, it's one of the best resources for uk photographers.

As to dictatorship, you've got to be joking. There's so much freedom given on here that some take the absolute mickey, or push the limits, so the mods have to step in to stop it descending into a bear pit other sites descend to.

And to be honest, I doubt you've any idea what it's like to live under a dictatorship. Unlike there, you are free to express an opinion and leave if you like.

So please, don't slag off those hard working volunteers who keep this place running and one of the best, friendliest (most of the time :) ) resources for photographers on the internet.
