It didn't used to! :bang: The only way that I can open them now is by opening in Photoshop.
Can anyone tell be how to put it back to how it used to be please?

right click on the jpg file

on the drop down menu select 'open with'

Click on choose default program

select the application you want to open jpg's

to make this permanent make sure you've got the 'Always use the selected progrma to open this kind of file' box click

Thanks Tony, but that just does the same. I had tried that. The only way is to open Photoshop and then go into 'Open'.
It has been fine for ever and a day! Something must have happened?

Sorry can't help directly but I had a look on the Internet and there are quite a few hits for the same question you asked.

How is your computer security? A few of the answers I have seen suggest a possible virus, which could account for why it has suddenly happened.

However, as you'll see from Googling it there could be a number of reasons.

Thanks Dave. I've got good security. One thing that I have just worked out, is that I had removed CS3 from my computer. I hadn't even realised that I still had it on the system. So removed it. It now seems to stem from that.

Well my Malwarebytes was out of date and I updated it. It found a virus. So something had slipped through. It removed it for me, but it still does it! :bang:

What do you want jpg files to open with? Open that program then open a jpg file with it to make sure it works. The program may offer to fix the file associations for you. if not the 'open with' procedure in windows explorer mentioned above should do it. What happens when you try it exactly?

It's now sorted. I hadn't restarted the laptop after the virus had been removed. Now works as before.
Thanks to all for helping.
