wondering if anyone can help a friend of mine .he caught a fish of a lifetime 15 lb salmon and gave his camera to a fellow fisherman to take a pic ....somehow hes taken a small movie clip mpg file ....is it possible to get a single image off it.

Yeah but it wont be anywhere near as good as a photograph would be.

I'll give you a free method, i'm sure someone will be along with a different one though.

Play the movie clip in media player on the pc, make the window as big as the resolution will cope with.

Pause it at the point you want to take the still from.

Press Alt & PrtScn together

Open Photoshop or your chosen image editor and paste into a new document.

Use a crop tool to remove the boarders of the media player.

Then play around to get the best you can in the image editor.

Save as a jpeg

Job jobbed.

cheers d.s ...thanks for that .i,ve managed it like you say not the best quality but shows how big the fish was..

Good stuff, i'm sure there are pay for packages that will do a better job of it but I dont know what they are called, or even how much better they would be.

Show us the image then lol

if you worked how much this cost a pound ....time,diesel,tackle etc its makes photography a cheap hobby
thanks again d.s...

Its better than I thought it would be, nice one!

Glad to help

Tim I think I can get a bit more detail, do you mind if I have a go? Wayne

It's only marginally better, you did a pretty good kob, I was expecting a lot worse from a vide still mate.

Not too bad at all, just looks like an old mobile phone pic. It's the moment it captures that counts anyway, not the quality.
