Hi all,

Been playing about with some photos on photoshop today, and accidentally overwrote the original file ... is there any way i can get that original file back as the one i've saved is absolutely no good and the original was ace !!

Before anyone says, i can't get them back off my cards as its been formatted several times since!

I've also set the original as my desktop wallpaper, is there a way i can save that without bringing up the 'new' file ??

Bit of a stupid one :(

Any help appreciated.

Rather Desperate now :(

Cheers,

To be honest, probably not... even data recovery software will have a job as you overwrote the file and didn't simply delete it...

not going to help here, but this is why I like lightroom as it's non destructive and doesn't effect the original file, yes it doesn't have everything photoshop has but it does more than enough for most people... and people and correct me if I am wrong, I think it can still do non destructive work by opening the file in photoshop anyway if you have both

If the image is still open in the PP software you should just be able to 'undo' it. If you have closed the pp software, and you have no backups.... You pretty much stuck with what you have left.

Unless the original was a RAW image, in which case just open up the RAW and readjust.

If you have set the original as your desktop wallpaper you should be able to retrieve it, as on windows systems they are saved as a bitmap with the default title of 'Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp'

For xp (should be similar for other versions - don't know about mac) go to display properties, then desktop tab, click on browse and then your original image should be a bitmap named 'Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp'. Copy this elsewhere and then you can convert it back to jpg.

Thanks for the replies now :)

Huge thank you to Jim_ on here ... found a link as to where it would be ... superb :D Thanks

Cheers,

Formatting the cards doesn't overwrite the data, it just removes the links, I have used recovery software on cards that have been formatted and used, you'd be supprised what you can get back, it just depends if that particular image has been over written. Wayne
