Hi guys,

possibly a really stupid question, or there is a really easy fix for this, but at the moment I am struggling to find the issue.

I have just bought some YN-04 II triggers and recieved them yesterday. I plugged them all in as per the instructions and took about 20 shots with it all working. Then turned it all off and put them away. A little later on, I tried to use them again, but the flash wouldn't fire remotely, even though I was in the manual setting on my flash (YN-465). The flash would still fire when the pilot button was pressed, and it also fired when it was on the transmitter hot shoe. The reciever was in direct line of sight from the transmitter, and even when pointed straight at the transmitter a matter of a few cm's away it wouldn't fire.

I haven't changed the batteries as they should be brand new (both wrapped), and I haven't any spare ones yet, and the LED / red lights both flash when the shutter button is pressed. The receivers light also flashes every 3 seconds like it should when it is turned on. I have changed the channels on the bottom, and made sure they were both to the same channel, but still no joy.

The lights on the back of the flashgun flash continuously too when attached to the reciever. I don't know if they did that when it was working fine as I was too busy taking shots! :bonk:

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the idea, I have just tried that, flash worked fine directly on camera, but not when I have put it back on the receiver, but the red LED is still flashing when the shutter button or test button is pressed.

I am turning the flash off before putting it on or removing it from either the receiver or camera. I am also turning the camera off when I put the transmitter or flash on or taking them off - will this have an effect?

:bonk:

We have one, but we live in a tiny flat, and it is starting to spit outside, so I don't want to go outside to test (ie far enough away!) May try it tomorrow - thanks for letting me know!

Would that make it work intermittently as it was working last nigth in the same room as the router?

A router would be 2.4GHz whereas the YN-04 series are 433MHz, so they probably won't interfere in that way.

only got the one receiver, is there any way I can check the contacts without using a volt meter thingy or additional flash unit as I have neither.

I am wary of over-tightening the flash on the receiver, so it is only finger tight.

Have you tried using the test button on the receiver? Less tightening, not more, is better for the electrical contacts. If you look carefully you will notice that as you tighten the flash foot, it is lifted upwards.

The batteries could also be the problem. The free included CR2s are really meant for testing only. They might not be full, or they might be duff.

Another thing to check is the batteries in the flash, as if they are depleted, the triggering voltage is lowered. CTR-301/Ps don't like this, and the YN-04s are based on (and compatible with) them so they might have the same issue. Full details and solution can be found here.

Thanks for your help Selbosh! Will be buying some new batteries today for everything.

Will buy spares too!

Still no joy.

Have changed the CR2 battery in the receiver, the A23 battery in the transmitter, bought some new Panasonic Infinium rechargables for the flash, and even put them on charge for an hour or so (though the cheap charger did show they were fully charged), I will put them on charge overnight and see if that improves things.

Thanks for the help guys!
