Help with what to shoot!

Not quite as odd as it sounds!!
Weather permitting I am taking someone out at the weekend to do some photography. He is very unwell so cannot walk very far, and will need to be sitting down a lot of the time.
He used to do mostly studio and portrait stuff but thats not going to be possible. I was thinking of going to a park with a farm bit that has animals pretty close to the public, and the usual geese, ducks etc. I am not exactly the most imaginative when it comes to ideas that are not obvious - he does not care where we go he just wants to get out so is leaving it up to me :shrug:

Any other thoughts please.
 
One potential problem with a farm/park is the possibility of fences between you and the animals, which would be more of a problem of you're sitting down that it would be if you're standing up.

On that theme though, a river or lake where there are ducks, geese, swans etc. could be an option. (Though I must admit I don't know if there are any good ones in Cloud Cuckoo Land...)
 
Pick a theme - someone around here recently posted a set of pics that all had "green" as a theme. Choose a colour, or a word - I dunno - "cold" for example.

Or go and take some pics for the comp - Structures.

Where abouts are you susie? Most of my pics are taken from the comfort of the passenger seat of our car because I can't walk far at all. Maybe I can help with ideas if I know where abouts you are, and also how far you are prepared to travel? ;)
 
Is there anything like Formby reserve near you, that way you can sit & wait for photography subjects to come to you?
Butterfly farms, Ness Gardens, etc. As Jo said, depends on where you are :thumbs:
 
Try some National Trust or similar properties. OK you can't photograph inside but outdoors is normally OK. The NT and other organisations do make arrangements for people who have difficulties. The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust have a number of sites around the country, and many if not all have access for the disabled. Plus you can get "up close and personal" with the some of the birds which makes photography a lot easier.
 
Thanks a lot everyone, he is on the London/Essex borders and will not be able to travel too far.

StuartR, I had not thought about the fences for someone sitting down :bang: will have to go for a look to check the height and what sort of viewability is available underneath it. There is a lake that I go to that has geese and ducks, and families are often around so he may be able to get some people shots which he does enjoy - I may need to pop him on a skateboard to pull him back up the hill to the car though!!

mobilevirgin, I could do that if it was for me, but it would involve a fair bit of walking, and structures tend to be in built up areas which are more likely to have a lot of people around so would be difficult for him - plus you have not seen my pictures - the structures would look like bomb sites if I turned a camera on them!! no way am I anything like competition standard :lol:

Jo, thanks, thats a really good idea, I could take the jeep so he would be sitting higher and drive to epping forest for the bikers and get some squirrels and people, plus the tea huts have some good sitting around looking at the views places that would only mean walking a few yards :) and I could just stop (if its convenient) if he saw something he liked the look of along the way.

moomike + chappers, I don't think there are any wildfowl places around really, the lake I go to is the closest. No butterfly places that I'm aware of and he wants to get outside which rules out NT houses.

However now I know where you mean I wouldn't be able to help much, as it's one area of the country we have yet to go to. But that's good cause I will watch this thread for ideas for myself too :thumbs:

You could try the London Wetlands Center, is part of the WWT, but it's situated in Barnes Which may be to far. As far as the NT is concerned, forget the houses it was the gardens I thought may be of more interest, mainly due to access.

You may be better off with somewhere like Epping Forest, (an old stamping ground of mine many years ago) .Here's a link to the access page , may help

Jo, you did give me the idea of taking shots from the car!! I was going to use my little car, but if I get the jeepy out he will have a better view from higher up which will be great! Its the sort of thing that would not have occured to me because I was thinking about him walking to get to places to shoot from as it was outdoors rather than driving close to the places if you see my logic!

Chappers, the wetlands center would be too far, thanks for the link to the forest, I go through it a fair bit so I know the layout quite well, but that has thrown up a couple of spots if they are accessible
 
OOhhhh I see! Well in that case have fun! It's a good solution, and will be a lot warmer for you too ;)
