Hi Guys!

I'm new to this forum. I'm hoping you could help.

I have some space in my shed and wish to build a studio in there. I must warn you that I have limited space.

Please see the attached images:

I just need advice on:
  • The best way to utilize the space
  • Painting the shed white OR adding pure white drapes around the space
  • Getting a Backdrop/Frame OR drilling a secure frame into the wall

This is the only space I have.

The shed is also a place for storage.

I just want it to look professional enough for paid work.

I was thinking of hanging drapes around the sides so the 'junk' around the space is not visible. Unfortunately there's no other place to put this junk!

Also, for somebody starting out in Studio Photography, would the Lencarta range suffice? I'm thinking the Smart Flash range here:
http://www.lencarta.com/lighting-store/smartflash-range

Any help would be great!

Thank you :)

Yes, you definately need to have a clear space, but the SmartFlash would in fact have more than enough power for a space this size, if you can wait until they come back into stock at the end of January. Loads of them have been bought by event photographers, who work them really hard without any problems.

As for decoration, white is in fact the worst possible choice, it will allow unwanted light to bounce around, destroying your attempts to light creatively. If you really want white, then at least paint the ceiling matt black, because unwanted light bounce from a low ceiling is probably the biggest single problem.

If you want pure white backgrounds (and I advise that you avoid them in such a small space) then your only real option is a Hi-Lite, which will need 2 lights just for the background. Your best bet though is probably to paint one wall black or grey and use that as a background.
