Help with settings for studio

hi i booked studio with full set up for a bit of a play but i have never used lighting before?? apparently all the lighting i need is there so ???
im just looking for some tips on settings and dos and don'ts really can anyone help with a bit of info


kit

sony 450 dslr
minolta 85mm 1.4 g lens
minolta 50mm 1.7
sony 18mm-55mm
tokina 11-16mm
any advice would be helpful
 
This article in the Lencarta Learning Centre, setting your camera up for studio flash, will get you started.

Other than that, don't be too ambitious. Keep things simple.
Start off by deciding on what sort of 'look' you want.
Then decide on camera height... If the camera is higher than the subject it will make the subject look unimportant etc.
Then set up one light, experiment with various positions until the shadows are exactly where you want them to be
Then, and only if necessary, add a reflector or a second light to reduce the depth of the shadows.

Just read through it I will post some shots after Saturday shoot so we cam see were am going wrong
