Yes
A work colleague recorded a BBC4 TV programme on DVD for me. However the DVD doesnt play in any of the players that I've tried.

The recording is pretty important and I would like to see if it can be recovered. Alternatively, can anybody advise on whether it is possible to record a programme from BBC iplayer on to DVD?

I have googled for ways to recover data from non-working DVD's, but no luck.

Many thanks in advice for any advice.

Does the DVD play on his machine ?

Has the disc been "finalised" (I think that's what it's called) ?

Try it on a computer.

I wonder whether this might be the problem (and from google it seems it's a common one!). She hasn't tested it on her own machine yet (we agreed I would try it at home and take it back on Monday if it didnt work).

She seemed confident that the recording went ok, so it would be great if this was the only issue. It seems it has to be finalised on her machine so Ill take it back on Monday and ask her to check.

I assume all the machines/computers concerned have the ability to read the same type of disc + - or RAM ?

It should still run on a PC without being finalised though.

DVD recorders are nasty, horrible things with very limited interoperability...

not necessarily, most unfinalised disks will only play in the original drive that burned them.

the OH has a dvd recorder and it does the same thing if not finalised.

I only said that because before I had our three computers networked, I had my backups to a DVD and took it round to the rest. They all played it OK:thinking:
