Help with PSE 8

I have searched for this but couldn't find anything...

Last night I was 'playing' with effect in PSE8 and and under the effects window I clicked on 'show all' in the little blue square with FX written on it.

Now I can't seem to reduce that window again to show just the 5 or so options I had before, as the drop down box is no longer showing.

I also seem to have lost the sliders in the layers pallet. I can open new layers but haven't anything to edit them with.

Can anyone give me any pointers before I become bald please. :lol:
 
Is there a small >>> icon on the top right to click?

I have << but when clicked that closes the window completely - I estimate there are about 280 icons :eek:

The drop down is from the blue box next to the one I clicked, I clicked 'show all' on the blue box with the FX symbol and now have about 280 icons to scroll thorugh to get to ones I normally use and can't find a way to get back to just showing some of them.

TBH I can work round that, but can't figure out where my sliders have gone for the layers pallet, as you can see it's not showing anywhere to edit.

I fully expect it's me who can't see for looking.:bang:

Ah I see - click on the blue square to the left of the one with fx
 
Sorry had to pop into work!!


The screen shot is of the box next to the one I clicked, the one with FX on it is now inoperative - I assume because all the icons are showing instead of the few I originally had showing, The only option I have now with thFX box is to permanently delete all the icons. :shrug:
 
Have you tried `window` in the tool bar at the top of the screen? You can open and close panels from there. Clicking on the `effects` boxes you have on the screen shot you put up *should* cycle through the options. Have you tried the old stand-by of closing all images, then turning PS8 off and on? Surprising how often this works.
 
Thanks for the pointer tried all that but has made no difference - I can't believe once you have selected 'show all' from the drop down it's irreversible! :(
 
Normally it isn't. Has `select all` made the other options unusable? You should be able to flick from `select all` to `photo effects` or whatever by clicking the appropriate button, not by clicking again on the already selected option.

Window>re-set panels should do as it suggests,
 
No matter, as I said I can work round it - and will get there no doubt. At least I've managed to get my sliders back for the layers pallet. ;)

You may have to apply the effect before the window will close (it thinks your still using it) then just do CTRL+z to undo the effect after (or don't save changes)
