Help with psd files (from Nikon D800) to jpg's , please.

I am working on Nef files, from my D800, converted to photoshop files; the camera and CS5 are set to Adobe RGB colour space.

I am flattening the finished files, then saving them as jpg's, but the resulting jpg's are much lighter than the psd files. They also are Abobe RGB colour, so I have no idea why the difference, can anyone help, please?

Does it get lighter when you flatten the psd (in photoshop) or later? if it's later have you tried keeping a copy of the psd and opening both side by side in photoshop for comparrison.
 
I was speaking to a nikon user at the weekend about this. It's a known problem with Adobe and Nikon raw files. The Adobe conversion messes with the exposure.

Process the files in the Nikon software and it will be ok.

When I have finished working on an image I firstly save the psd file with all layers intact, then flatten the file and convert the psd to jpg using highest quality, and making no changes to colourspace,etc.

There is then a big difference between the two files, even if I open both side by side in CS5. Normally this isn't a problem as when I print a file, I can print from the psd file, but I now need to produce a series of jpg files that look exactly like the psd files.

I haven't heard about a compatability problem with nikon raw files in CS5, but it shouldn't affect them as the files are already converted to psd files at this point?

I do have Capture NX2, but find it slow and clunky to use, but even then it won't do what CS5 does, will it?

That, I think, is an issue with viewing the raw files in the two programs - NX2 applies the nikon in-camera settings to the nef file whereas adobe doesn't.

My issue is different, I convert from nef to psd first, then make the adjustments, etc, then convert to jpg. The difference is between the Adobe psd file and the Adobe jpg file.
 
Does it make any difference if set to sRGB?
 
Does it change instantly when you flattern the psd? it sounds like you might be loosing a blend mode maybe.
 
No, it doesn't change when flattened, it still looks the same. The change happens when I convert from psd to jpg.
 
Don't flatten it, just save as jpg?
 
PS then flattens it as part of the conversion, so same thing?
 
I get the same thing and using NX2 prior to Photoshop makes no difference

But I know how you must feel. I have also asked on the PS forum, and no luck there yet, either. Really frustrating as I have some images I need to finish as jpg's!
