Probably a really dense question with an obvious answer, but I'm a newbie with Photoshop

I've just installed PS CS5, but when I try to open a file I just get a screen of grey/white checkered squares. It shows the picture if I click on the header bar and move the file around within the workspace, but then reverts to the checkerboard when I let go.

Help, please!

The check squares usually mean theres transparent pixles in the image, can you post a screencap?

Hmmm, it does it with every file though. They can't all have transparent pixels can they?

Saw this reply a few days back to this question, you could try the suggestion.

"Make sure you have the latest device driver for your video card. Also try turning off GPU support if on. There have been many problems reported with some video makers openGL support. Use menu Edit>Preferences>Performance uncheck something like GPU or OpenGL support."

May be of use.

Any luck?

I read an article that actually suggested rolling back your graphics card drivers, i had trouble with CS5 (crashing when opening an image) so i rolled back my drivers and voila!

Its expected the next set of drivers released by Nvidia/ATI should be more CS5 compatable.

Nope, no luck with it. :'( It looks as if the original image is opening as a layer for some reason, so according to a Man Who Knows, it's more likely to be a software issue. Looks like I'm going to have to try a reinstall.

Thanks for the advice all.
