Help with photographing in a dark atmosphere

Tell us what camera and lens you are using.. that will help :)

No i didnt use the tripod.

Its a canon 450d lens 18-55mm :)

Right... you need to get your shutter speed up.. you should not shoot this at f5.6 instead at f3.5 (prob have to not zoom so much to achieve this) which i believe your lens will do...and your shutter will be faster.. also you dont say what iso.. you can maybe up that which will also give you more shutter speed..

If your happy wiht the exposure (lighting and colours ok) then get your shutter speed up with f3.5 and maybe higher iso and you will see better results :)

If you havnt got a tripod, try sitting on a chair backward, and using the back of chair to rest your camera on,try get your shutter speed up to about 1/100th,if you can,and is the blur all over,or from movement of your daughter :)

Thank you very much :), Sorry forgot that bit I tried iso 400 and 1600

the higher the iso the faster the shutter. however more noise in your picture.. going from f5.6 to f3.5 will help a lot..

Really a candle will not give enough light, if possible you should have an off camera flash with a nice warm colour gel on to give you a bit more light.

Try a couple more candles, and perhaps a mirror or something white to reflect light from the candle(s) that's going the wrong way back at her.

The nifty fifty lens is ideal for this sort of thing. It might help using spot metering on the camera too instead of evaluative or centre weighted.

I shot a subject using a sparkler to illuminate his face, 1/60 f1.8 ISO 400. It looked awesome.
