Hi guys, I am trying to use a pair of 580EX's as slaves, I have a ST E2 transmitter . I am trying to have a fast flash to freeze moving subjects, but the p[roblem I'm facing is that i cannot get the flash to do anything, no matter what button i press to adjust settings.....i want to use the flash manually and zoom at about 50, but they are both set on 24 and won;'t move...the manual says that i need to press the MODE button for 2 seconds and then i can change things but this isnt happening.......can anyone help me...thanks

hi
you need to activate the slave mode
which you have
then you need to tell the ST'E2 to fire on that channel number
you can also tell them to be in different groups, A and B to have them fire in a ratio if you want
then if you angle the heads up then the zoom on the flash will go wide I think,
so you need to point the flash in it's natural position at the subject.

also your fastest flash will be the sync speed of the units so that's around 1/125s I think
not sure,

if that picture isn't your flash then yes, you need to hold down the button and cycle through the settings.
daft question...but have you read your manual?
I keep mine handy for references like this. it's pretty good tbh, not like a badly translated VCR manual from the 80s!

Quick thought as it stumped me once - if you can't zoom past 24mm, it's worth double-checking your wide-angle adapter/bounce-card is fully pushed in, as if it's not fully in, it fixes flash zoom to 24mm.

When the wireless selector on the base is first set to Slave the flash head will zoom to 24mm. That is done to ensure maximum line-of-sight communication with the Slave flashes. The zoom can be overridden by pressing the ZOOM button until the zoom setting begins to flash and turning the central dial to adjust.
