Help with Nikon D40x lens

hi there,

Was recommended to this forum by a friend as i have just brought a Nikon D40x for my european travels in 2 weeks :D, i have already got the 18-55mm lens that comes in the kit but as looking for another lens. Have been looking around the internet and decided i want around a 55-200mm lens that will be compatible with my camera. I believe that my camera will be compatible with all Nikon fitting AF-S, AF-I and HSM lens (am i right?) could anyone steer my in the right direction of where i should be looking shop wise, and what sort of specs for the lens i would get for spending aqround £150 on it? I was going to buy a compact flash camera but went the whole way and got a DSLR instead so money is short :( thanks for your advice in advance!! and sorry if i made any mistakes as this is first time I have had a DSLR and is all a bit new to me.

Warehouse Express do that Nikkor lens for around £140. If you can stretch an extra few £££s go for the VR version which is image stabilised....

No doubt someone will be around later with cheaper options but WE are good to deal with. Sigma must do something as well......... ;)

Go for the 55-200mm AFS VR if you can afford it. I have the 70-300mm one and it's a great lens :)

You can buy it here for about £20 over your budget which aint too bad.
 
thanks Ewan, i think i will go with that lens looking at much money i think i can up the budget a bit more if you all think it is definatly worth it, i have been talking to my friend and he is saying (as i am going abroad for a month, to sunny locations *fingers crossed) that i should get a Circular Polarizing Glass Filter. Now what size would i be looking at and what make is a good make but not very expensive seeing i have upped my budget o the lens!

okies its 52mm on my 18-55 lens, what would the 55-200 be? (sorry for silly questions really am a totally noob to all of this) Also i have been told that a flash would be worth my time aswell, due to the default flash on my camera is not the best in the world, and recommendations and prices?

For a flash you can't go wrong with either the nikon sb600 or sb800 for about £150 and £220. PM kerso in this forum, I got my sb600 from him for £150 a few months ago :)

ah, stuipid me . . . . . sorry for the mistake! My missus said it was spelt that way but i was determined it was spelt "lens". Would change topic title but unsure how to!
