Help with macro lens?

I have Tamron's 90mm 2.8 it's highly regarded and offers plenty of bang for the buck .. I love it

If I was given the choice of the two, then I'd go for the 85mm as it would allow for a greater working distance - something I find important for my style.

However, while I'm sure that the DX macro lenses will produce the goods I'm not sure they represent particularly good value for money, especially when you consider that the 105VR is a fantastic piece of kit, which will also do full frame, and only costs around 50% more.

I was speaking with a Nikon dealer the other day, and he was saying that they shifting very few 85mm and practically no 40mm. However they couldn't get enough of the 60mm and 105mm to satisfy demand.

I can't comment on the tamron 90mm other than a mate of mine, who's very handy with a camera, says it's pretty damn good. However his opinion is based on FF portraiture, and not macro use.

Thanks guys I was considering the 105 actually,I may have to pop in to my local jessops and have a look..

I have the older 105mm d - really nice lens.
Put some tubes on and macro gets closer...!

Working distance is approx 10cm to 5cm (normal) and 1 cm (with tubes).

Links in the sig. Also does longer portraits, although you get complaints with the crisper details lol.

Think it was around 350 used...

Oh you may want to consider the 105mm sigma or the 150mm sigma (depending on what you are shooting).
I found the 105mm nikor was a bit too close to get the dragon flies (they were too skittish).
