Help with Mac OS X

My sister is living out in Brazil and has an old Mac running OS X. She's trying to email photos back to us but the internet connection speeds are very slow and it takes ages to send pictures straight from the camera, as the file size is too high. Do any of you Mac users know how to convert the images into low res ones that will give a much smaller file size?

if you dont want to buy any software, just use preview (built into the OS)
open the pic in preview. adjust the size to something like 500 pixels then drag it from preview into your e-mail
 
Yes, she's using iPhoto, although it'll be an old version. I'd really appreciate some simple instructions on how to resize, I don't have a Mac and my sister's not the most IT literate person in the world!

i dont use iphoto, but i would imagine you can select a photo and then press alt+E and it will resize the photo and e-mail it all in one go.
but thats just a guess

otherwise, open the photo in preview, go to tools, resize, change pixels to 500, file, mail image.

ThumbNailer is a free app. The install is very easy once it is installed click on the app and it pops up some options (size and quality) then all you do is drag the files to the app in the dock and release the files are then available in the same location with a different name ready to be emailed

yep...that should work...just open iPhoto, select the pictures to email and then click the email icon and choose the size you want the sent pictures to be (800x600 for example).

I know that comment was not serious and though I'm still drooling over my s/H G4 Powerbook I bought last week I can't get XP out of my head. Anyone recommend an on-line tutorial for Leopard?

I'm mulling over a 2.4Ghz Macbook or whether I should pay a bit more and get a Macbook Pro...

A Mac Fanboy has suggested waiting until the Mac Developers Conference in June in case anything new is announced which may impact prices of current models.

i'm glad i went for the mac book instead of pro.. saved a lot of money and its so much more portible.

appologies if i mentioned it before, but if you get a mac, get it from John Lewis. Its the same price as everywhere else but you get 2 years warranty instead of 1.

I don't know which version of Mac OSX she is running, but in the current version 10.5 it is quite easy. If you drag a photo into the Mail browser, in the bottom right hand side of the window you can choose at what size you want the photo to be.

Actual Size
Large
Medium
Small

That is the easiest way I can think of.

I would wait until after WWDC, it's only a matter of weeks away now anyway.

I was in the sae situation as you 6 months ago and went for the Mac book, the two main reasons being the price difference and the fact it fits in the front pocket of my camera bag. The only down side is the glossy screen, whereas on the Macbook Pro you can opt for the matt screen.
