Guys,

Having just purchased the 85mm F1.8 and downloaded Enfuse plugin for Lightroom i'm keen to have a play with HDR today.

I'm heading out to get some some shots shortly and wondered what the best technique to use on the camera.

My ideal would be having set the camera on the tripod i'm able to release the shutter with the remote and fire a 3 shot sequence (potentially 1 stop under, correct exposure and 1 stop over) - (is this range about right ?), assuming so what's the easiest way to set the d90 up to to this ?

Anyone tried enfuse ? - i'm lazy so even if it's not the best hdr prog it's a lightroom plugin so that's a big plus for me

Many thanks,
Mike.

Hi Mikeyw

have a look at this site for some great tips and some great images link

I always use 2 stop under, correct exposure and 2 stop over

and have a lot of fun ..:-)

im no pro but it really depends on the scene, what i do is take a meter reading of the brighest and darkest part of the scene.then you will know what range of light is there.so i would then take a shot at each of them settings and then a couple equally inbetween.

Since you're lazy ;) the lazyman's way of doing it is to set the camera to auto-bracketing so it will fire off a sequence of three exposures in rapid succession. I would set -2, 0, +2 on aperture priority, meter as normal on matrix, and keep an eye on the shutter speed. You only need a tripod if that gets too long. It's dead easy.

I use photomatix and just load one RAW file into it.

Have compared it the results from bracketing and cant see a huge amount of difference.

Don't think this is true on the D90 - you can set it to bracket but each shot needs the shutter button depressing, not a massive headache though on tripod with remote.

Think i'll try -1 thru +1 and -2 thru +2 and see what i get.

Thanks for the advice.
Mike.

I like this technique too :) As you say, if you're careful to get the exposure optimum (expose to the right etc) it looks very good.

Just one exposure, no ghosting or movement issues, and it stops you getting too surreal with the effect

silly question but how do you go about loading just one file

Mike.

With the D90, if you set the camera to continuous shooting - I prefer low speed for bracketing - then it will fire the three shots on one button press and then stop.

When you've finished don't forget to switch bracketing off or you'll be wondering why you're getting weird exposures - go on, ask me how I know :D
