Hi folks,

After a little help if possible.

My camera is the Canon M50 mk ii and I have a Canon 430 EX III RT.

I am trying (and failing in style) to figure out how to get my camera to trigger the flash when it's on the stand.

I've watched a couple of YouTube videos but just cannot get it to work. The red light is flashing on the flash and I lift the camera flash, press the button and NADA

Could someone out there throw me a bone. The manual may as well be written in a different language lol

When I finish work I’ll have a look at the M5 and flash.

Ah
The M5 has no wireless flash facility, and it appears the M50II doesn’t either.

Checked the manual and the only mention of wireless flash control is within the external flash menu

so you’re gonna need a transmitter suited to your flash (or a new flash and transmitter if you want to go radio)

Or simply set your flash to be fired just by flash (if it can) most cheap flashes would need S2

Ah that's okay then, I thought I could set it to trigger by lifting the flash on the M50 mk ii. Never mind. It works when attached so that was the primary reason for buying it, but wanted to see if I could use it off the camera. Guess that's not a facility on a £699 camera.
Im looking at buying an R6 moving forwards so must ensure it works with that. I believe the transmitter is another £280 give or take and I don't think I will use radio / off flash that often really.
I did check the canon website for compatibility and assumed it meant everything..lesson learned. At least I got the flash cheaper at £280

It’s not the price, it’s due to building it down to a very small size.

None of the 1d, 5d or 6d cameras can wirelessly control a flash either. ;)

That's okay Phil, I really appreciate you taking the time to look for me and at least I now know it's not me being stupid lol

You need the Canon ST-E2 or Yongnuo equivalent.
or a Godox x-pro trigger and receiver to attach to your Canon flash

but did we not suggest Godox for a path to simpler future wireless use when you asked about a suitable flash originally?

for the £280 you could have got 2 more powerful radio controlled Godox flashes and a transmitter.

Ah you live and learn lol.

I guess I will ask more questions next time, however the flash does do what I initially purchased it for so not all is lost.

Looks like I can grab that canon ST 2E for about £50 so I might do that at some point, but it's not essential..I don't have a studio or anything like that.
