Ok, i went for my interview the other day (and i got in woo in) the lady who did my interview was really nice and she suggested i should study some photographers and look at the techniques they use etc.
So i was just wondering if anyone knew some names of famous photographers i could research? from all different areas of photography.
thanks xxx

For my course, I needed to study the formal elements (line, pattern, texture, shape, etc), as well as different mediums of photography, so I'll point you in that direction.

I'll give you a list of names that I can remember.
Ansel Adams
Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
The f/64 group
Can't remember any pinhole photographers, but have a look in that area
Simon Norfolk
Have a look at photographers who use digital manipulation

Argh, I've had a mind blank!

Really the main ones are the first three. Make sure you research the formal elements, too. It will probably be really important throughout your course.

The list is almost endless...

But as a starter - the classics:

Ansel Adams
Diane Arbus
Bill Brandt
Henri Cartier-Bresson
Walker Evans
Annie Leibovitz
Angus McBean
Don McCullin
Man Ray
Alfred Stieglitz
Weegee

You might also want to look at the Magnum photographers

That should get you started - Congrats on getting in! - now get googling!

If you end up doing some of this research at a college, becareful if you search for robert mapplethorpe. As a lot of systems have filters on and they go bloody mental with his stuff!!!

Ah yes forgot about that, only 10 years ago police, Birmingham uni and Mapplethorpes' book
