I am about to buy a Canon EOS 650D.

Its my first camera.

Do i get the standard kit (18-55mm) or the about 200£ more expensive kit with 18-135 STM lens?

I ask this , as mybe its more smarter to use the extra 200£ to buy seperate but better lens?

Will be doing all sorts of photos-videos so an all arounder setup is what ill be after.

Will be buying in two weeks time, so have a little time to choose what to get.

Also what are the other equipment i would need when on holiday, as will be going on a 3-4 day trip to Paris.

Thank you!

I bought my son the 600D last year and swapped the 18-55 for the 15-85 lens which is a cracking walkabout lens.

Other things would be memory cards and I'd have an extra battery. A reasonable size bag to put it in and have room to carry your manual for the first couple of weeks.

A spare battery and a bag it will easily go in and out of.
The 18-135 will be more versatile and probably you will not feel need of any more lenses for a year or two.

Depending on where you are currently pricing it at, you may be able to free up some money by looking at buying it from Panamoz?

I am looking at buying from DigitalRev. The 18-55mm is currently @ 440£ and the 18-135 STM kit is @ 640£.

At the moment have got 300£ saved, next two weeks brings in another 300-350£ to be able to spend on camera and other kit.

I would suggest the 18-135mm lens, when I started I had the 18-55mm and then bought the 55-250mm but found I seemed to be changing lens from one to the other. This annoyed me enough to purchase the previous model of Canons 18-135mm and this covers 90% of what I want to use and is the lens I choose if only taking a single lens and body out for a day.

As i like to shoot video of (my kids) i have read that , STM lens provides the lowest noise aswell. So that speaks aswell for the 18-135mm STM lens favor.

What else, should be essential (after memory cards and battery) ? I have read about filters, which are must haves when shooting on holiday? Going to Disneyland so wanna get some beautiful shots to send off to grandparents :)

Question about Panamoz, how good are they compared to Digitalrev?

Just had a look and they have the 18-135mm STM kit @ 595£ witch is 45£ less than Digitalrev. Also, they offer direct bank transfer to get additional 5% off, so out of 600£ its nearly 30£.

Anyone here ordered from them? How fast are they with shipping? ECT?

I've bought off Panamoz a few times and they are fantastic. The delivery is usually made in 4-5 days, but I've had a delivery in 3 days before. The 18-135 STM is a fair bit better overall, sharper and faster AF performance, and is a great range. It's probably the only lens you'd need on a holiday when enjoying the holiday is more important than the photos.

I bought a 650D for the wife, from Panamoz, when they first came out and they are a fantastic camera. You should get loads of good shots from it when coupled with an 18-135 STM.

hiya i brought the 600D just last week and I got the 18-55 lens, i have today brought a macro lens but the other lens is great and takes some good pics very clear.
