Could anyone help or advise me on sorting the background out in this shot. I would like it to be all the same shade. If it could be done in LR that would be great.

how was the shot taken???

i shoot raw, and in the software ive got on the computer at home i can blur backgrounds out quite nicely with near no effort at all..... most processing software i would assume to be fairly similar i'd assume so this should be possible easily in theory.....

Lightroom good as it is, really isn't great at this sort of thing. The local ajustments are very limited and theres no proper selections.
This was done very quickly in photoshop, (about 30 seconds so it's rough) I just selected to boy, inverted the selection, filled the background with one of the colours on the original background and bunged in a bit of noise to make it look more real.

tezmed. The shot was taken while I was setting the flash to the right power and my lad was just messing around before I had my backdrop up. With a little pp in lightroom it's turned out to be one of my favourites.

I shoot raw too, and convert in Lightroom. A blur on the background alone would not be enough to get all the background the same shade.

Swanseamale47. That looks really good to me, thanks. Although Photoshop is on my wishlist, it's not at the top right now so I'm stuck with LR3 and Gimp. I've had an attempt using Gimp but it's not as good as yours, but still ok. Did you add noise to the whole pic or just the background?

Just the background, I had it selected so I added noise to make it look less false.
