Basically my school have just given out the application forms for next year's prefects and head boy. I'd really like to get this even if it's just something for my cv to help me stand out.

The problem I'm having is some of the questions:
1.List the 5 most important responsibilities of a prefect
2.List the 5 most important qualities of a prefect
3.Give your reason for applying for head boy

These are the questions that I can't do because head boy and prefects don't do anything at my school apart from occasionally helping out at parents evenings etc and therefore I don't have a clue what I should put for them apart from making it all up?

Also I need to write a cover letter but not sure what sort of thing that should contain?

Was waiting for that sort of response

The thing is I can do the 2nd one of qualities but am just looking do ideas as to what I should put for responsibilities as they don't have any at our school. Also I don't think "So I can put it on my cv" is what they're looking for in my reason of application

surely you must know or at least think you know why you want to do it.

If you cannot think of a few things, are you the right man for the job:shrug:

Have a think of what you could offer to the school in the role, what qualities you have that set you aside form others, (google school prefect) , talk to your parents, ask family and friends........

I thnk you'll find, most on here will help and encourage, but not do the job for you...

My main reason for doing it is as something to help me layer when applying for college, uni and jobs as a sort of "I was chosen to be head boy/prefect" showing that I'm someone they may want to offer a place to, but I didn't think that's something that would be appropriate for an application so was looking for guidance.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across like I was asking you to do it for me.

Have a think about what you think are the main responsibilities etc, they probably want to know why you think they are important as that way you are more likely to take the job seriously.

As for the cover letter you could treat it like a job application and outline why you are applying for the position and why you think you are suitable.

Hope this helps, in my day you put your name forward and got chosen if you were lucky! How times have changed!

Look at it another way - what qualities do you think potential employees / Uni's etc assume that someone who has been chosen as head boy or a prefect would have? Why does it make you a better candidate in their eyes?

As for responsibilities and prefects / Heads of at your school not doing a lot - what do you think they could / should do?
