I do a lot of photography for an amature rugby league club and am looking for my own website (funds are limited).

If you would bear with me because my IT skills aren't that good TBH. But would I be on the right lines if I did it this way?

Buy a domain name from somewhere like 'easily'?
Buy web hosting from 'Vidahost'
use wordpress to 'build(?)' my website.

Thats about as far as I've got really so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another question my grandaughter keeps going on about a free website called Weebly anyone know anything about them?

Thanks again.

Wordpress is the only serious option you should look at.. Things like Weebly, Zenfolio etc really are a poor compromise to make.

Buy domain name.
Buy web hosting.
Point domain to web hosting servers.
Install Wordpress to manage site (Vidahost have a one click install for it, which is handy)
Find a good theme.

I made this guide to creating a simple Wordpress site, if it helps you: http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=479619

I'd agree with that except, for some people Zenfolio is the perfect solution. But it doesn't sound like it's what you want.

Ben, Phil Thank you!
Ben I've read your guide and is it really that easy?
Another question, I download wordpress to my computer to create/build my website and when thats done do I just then upload it to my host?

There are utilities to allow this, but frankly, it's much easier to just build it in situ and not publish it until you're ready.

Honestly, doing it this way round will save you hassle. It's generally the first thing people don't like, then they'll complain that everything is complicated. A bit like insisting on using Manual Focus and then complaining that nothing's in focus :p.

You can install it on your computer although you will also need to install something similar to WampServer.

It's actually a lot easier though to edit your design and content with it installed on your hosting account. As Ben mentioned a lot of hosts (including VidaHost) have a one click install for Wordpress.

EDIT: Phil beat me too it ;)

Yes Paul, genuinely. That guide is step by step, and if you get stuck I can help you as I've had lots of experience using that theme. However, most of that guide is only applicable to that theme and not Wordpress in general, as all themes work differently - so if you pick a different theme, most of that info won't apply.
