I have a room approx 20 x 30 feet in my Dojo that i would like to set up as a small studio. so here aer the questions
  1. Is the Area big enough
  2. what do Models look for
  3. is it best to have all white walls
  4. approx equipment
  5. is it better to have tube lighting or spot on the roof
  6. It has 1 set of windows at 1 end will i nees a blackout screen
sorry for the noob questions but if I don't ask I will not Know LOL
at this point i have sill not skinned the walls yet and put the power in so its all open to ideas plan is
1 30 foot wall is brick
1 20 foot wall is also brick but has windows
1 30 foot wall is metal clad with door and 1 small window looking into dojo
1 20 foot wall is metal clad
i was going to skin all walls and roof and paint white
and then use hardboard with background wall paper on ??

If you would like to Know the area it is in its Chadderton Nr Oldham

i can get it to 8 or 9 feet approx or lower total less duckting and power is 13 feet but was thinking to lower it to help hide the junk on roof ? will take a few pic today to show ares with lots of junk in room yet just a big junk room yet LOL

Any space converted to a studio will be approx 6 inches too small in each direction ;)

Sounds like you'll be fine for space but keep the ceiling as high as you can.

Check out some of the studio build threads on here - most people get very passionate about wall colour.....

Many thanks for your reply Jonathan will a 2 light system be ok to start with ????

do you want low key moody shots? or do you want to light the background too?
also hair lights? etc...some of it can be done with a nice freestanding reflector

Can I join in. The studio space is ample, the hight is Ok too. Please do not clad the walls in metal, leave one wall as a brick wall and plaster the other three. Make two white and one black, have a plasterer make a smooth transition from wall to floor (like coving does on a ceiling). This will provide maximum choice for your clients. As for the models, provide them with a largish clean and private changing room. All that is left is to supply an abundance of tea and coffee and you are away. For lighting try Bowens, ebay is full of them. Three heads should suffice for a start and some softboxes and brollies will get you off to a good start, plus a light meter.
I hope this helps, if I can help further, please contact me and I will gladly talk to you more.
