Get in contact with Canon Elstree - is it out of warranty?

And fixation in London

They have a good reputation. DigitalRev use them for warranty repairs. I took my Tamron 24-70 to them to confirm it was faulty which they did within 24 hrs, so not had any work done personally.

Have you also tried taking out the small clock / memory button battery?

Cant find a small clock/memory button battery Tom, looked everywhere, could it be the Canon 70d doesn't have one?
I've never had a Canon body without one, Judi, but anything's possible. I'm not familiar with the 70D but suspect that the cell is slipped in a slot directly below the hinge on the main battery door.

From the Canon site

Err 70
Description:

A malfunction with the images has been detected.

Resolution:

  1. Turn the power off and remove then re-install the battery.
  2. Turn the power on again.
If the above solution has not resolved your error, please contact your nearest Canon authorised service facility using the link at the top of the page.

It's located inside the body, so have to dismantle it.
Not a diffcult job if it's out of warranty and you're feeling brave. I've had my 70D apart a few times the last few weeks making some cleaning and replacing a couple of components, loadsa fun :)
