I am in the market for a new lens for my 350D, something I can use for portraits and landscapes, so I can finally get some good shots of my new son, and to replace the 18-55mm kit lens. I have at the minute the kit lens, a canon 90-300mm and a sigma 170-500mm, I've got £300 max. I was thinking about the sigma 17-70mm. Any other ides or recomendations ?

Thanks,
Chris.

What kind of budget are you looking at Chris? This will affect recommendations considerably:thumbs:

Doh!! Read the thread properly!!!!

If you are happy with your existing telephoto's why not keep them and just purchase a nifty fifty, great for portraits!

The 17-70 is a great choice and a huge improvement on your kit lens. You may also want to consider the Tamron 17-50 and the Sigma 18-50 both of which are constant f/2.8----all of these are within your budget.
Pete.

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to go for the sigma 17-70mm, because it has the macro on it, I know it isn't a true macro, but it will do to start. I might even treat myself to the canon 50mm 1.8 too, seeing as every other canon user has one and raves about them.

Chris.

Did you know it's the LAW to own a 50mm f1.8 Nifty Fifty if you have a Canon Camera!:lol::lol::lol:
