Hi, I currently use CS2,could someone please give me step by step instructions to selectively sharpen an image, say a bird on a pond for example.
Can you go through it a stage at a time as though you where telling a 4 year old :lol:you will have gathered that I'am not very good with photoshop.
Many thanks.

There's a good article on using CS2 sharpening here.... although you might be better using one of the free plugins available?

Open the layers palette, (if it's not already showing) drag the background layer to the new layer icon on the bottom of the layers palette (assuming there is only one layer) now click the top layer (which is a duplicate) and sharpen that till your happy.
Now holding down the ALT key click the layer mask icon on the bottom of the layers palette, this will now hide the sharpening layer. Click on the brush tool make sure white is the front colour on the colour boxes on the left toolbar now paint in the bits you want sharpened, if you make a mistake switching to black allows to paint back out the sharpening.
I use pk sharpener which does most of this for me (but costs) you can also download TLR sharpener which is similar (and free)
