Hi people,,,

my first post here.... Im after some help in buying my first camera and getting into doing tidy photos...

Up till now ive been using my b/f Nikon basic digital camera to play with but fancy something a bit better to do more...

I like the look of the D40 Nikon as id like to stay with nikon.

Are these a good camera to learn with? Im still VERY new to all this.

Many thanks for ANY help!!!

:clap::thumbs:

Welcome. :wave:

I think the D40 or any entry level DSLR would be a good choice for you. DSLR's can be a bit daunting initially, so a camera like the D40 with fewer menus and features to confuse you can be a big help in the early stages, while it can still take pics every bit as good as the more expensive versions.

Yes, the D40 is a capable camera and one which will easily cope with the learning curve ahead of you.

Good luck with it :)

Welcome along Lucy. Just remember it's not the camera that's important but you. :)

Here we go again... why oh why do people just have to do this 'Nikon is best' stuff all the time, give it a break eh...:shrug:

mrsfuzzyfelts: what I suggest you need to consider is perhaps popping along to your local camera center and taking a look at a whole range of cameras: Canon, Nikon, Sony and Olympus gear. They all have capable cameras at intro level, and you need to determine which one feels 'right' for you.

Try as many as you can before you purchase, don't just go for the cheapest on the market, nor or the one whose membership here says "go Canon" or "go Nikon". Take a mature approach and have a look for features, ease of use, comfort in the hand, and also have a think about what type of photographs you might be wanting to take and thus the lenses required for taking those shots. Then look into lens prices because regardless of whichever choice of manufacturer you go for, one thing is for sure, you will end up spending lots of money on kit.

Good luck with whatever choice you make.:thumbs:

Buy my Canon 400D... :thumbs:

If you know someone (eg family member) who is locked into a system, it makes sense to join them as you get access to their stuff.

Personally I'd look at a nearly new D80 rather than a D40(D40X) as the D40 lens choice is a bit more limited (if you wanted to stay with Nikon)
