The other day I popped into the shop to get some milk. Got back to the car and put the 2 litre bottle onto the passenger seat. I hadn't noticed that the top was loose and sods law so was the seal.

Got home and I had approx a pint of milk down the back of the seat and onto the rear footwell. I quickly wiped it all up and soaked it best I could with clean water but now around a week later the car stinks, and I mean STINKS!!!!!!

We tried cleaning it again yesterday with 1001 carpet cleaner and left the roof off the car all day (convertible) but it still stinks like someone farted after a good curry.

Any ideas from you clever lot out there?

Lots of cold water with a little vinegar & plenty of towels to press on to soak it up. (repeat many times)
You can buy biological odour eliminator/sprays. We have some called Cromesol, which is kept for such disasters. (y)
Milk in a hot car really stinks, so good luck.

A couple of good suggestions, and I know there's a pro valeter on the boards who might see your dilemma and assist.

I'm wondering if the shopkeeper deliberately loosened the lid on your milk in revenge for you doing this..........

The other day I pooped into the shop to get some milk.

As said above a steam cleaner, ideally a steam/extraction system, then either any of the odour eliminators mentioned above or you can use Baking soda (Bicarbonate of soda) sprinkled over the whole carpet area, brushed in and then hoovered up an hour or so later.

But you also need to consider the possibility that the milk has run underneath the carpets in the rear footwell or elsewhere, in which case you either need to remove the carpets or at least partially lift them to tackle any underlying odours/stains.

Won't bicarbonate of soda help the smell as it is a neutraliser

Having had the same thing happen to me last year when it soaked into the cushion on the back seat, the only thing that cured it properly was an enzyme eater and some wet-vaccing.
I tried a couple of things from asda but they only worked for a week then the smell came back.

Thanks for all the help so far. I think the jokes have been milked as much as possible.

I've just ordered the Valet Pro stuff off Ebay so we'll see how it gets on. I might be able to get under the carpet with a bit of trim removal but you know what modern cars are like (Peugeot 308CC). Meanwhile I'll try Old Carlos' idea first.

Luckily the weather is nice and sunny the past two days so at least it's getting some fresh air to it. I'll let you know how I get on.

Phil...

That's the fella....buggered if I could remember who it was!

Yeah bicarb will sort it. It's happened to me I always tip the milk upside down to check doesn't leak now.

Cornflakes and a dash of sugar?

Sorry, I have no sensible suggestions but I have heard it's a nightmare to get rid of. Good luck!

We once had a rather obnoxious taxi driver that worked with us ,a couple of the lads hid a mackerel in his air intake ,took a few days but it really stank ,funnily enough he started behaving after that

Bicarb will help...

A friend at work had a double whammy of this, he'd spilt milk and it was stinking his car out, so much so, it made his daughter throw up all over the back seat :puke: He got in touch with a local valeter who came down to work, spent an hour or so and problem solved - milk and vomit smell gone - couple of days after, no trace at all. He was a very happy chappy - sorry haven't a clue what the valet used, other than he deep cleaned and deodorised the whole of the rear of his car...

Hope you get it sorted out

I'd be right cheesed off.

Sorry for the bad joke. I couldn't do any butter.

You have probably heard the cream of the crop there

The OP could always get his mootor vehicle professionally creamed cleaned

Thing is, yogurt to put some time & effort into the problem.

Has the OP clarified the result yet?

Still waiting for the stuff to arrive.

Went to Cheltenham last night for the game and had fish & chips in the car before. The smell of the milk overpowered the smell of the chish & fips

We bought a car that stank of smoke (penetrated the cloth interior), nice car, good price, used valet pro as I linked in post 4, I think youve already ordered that but also purchased one of these....

I got it from i4detailing, worth calling them and asking if they still sell the product. A combination of both and touch wood the smoke smell has gone. Hopefully as the others have said, you dont have yoghurt under the carpet.

It seems to have worked although the smell was starting to fade on the day the stuff arrived anyway.

Left a strong lemon after smell but that has gone too. Have to wait for a hot day to see if it comes back to life.

Good news, hopefully it stays away.

As above, good news and hopefully stays away, although you could always redo if you begin to detect it again

Well done in being victorious over such a rancid smell. :-)

To be honest I'd be tempted to redo it regardless in a few weeks before the temperatures start to rise....kind of a preemptive strike. :D

To be honest I think all these jokes are udderly ridiculous. This man came on here with a clear problem and all you've done is just skimmed over his issue like a fat gallon an exercise bike.
I think the whole thread has turned sour. The whey you've just churned out joke after jokes is a casein point.
I hope you're all ashamed of yourselves and dairynt teat anyone on here like this again.

I'd have closed this thread due to the shocking disregard of this man's cry for help butter his milk isn't going to clean itself up unless he knows how to goat it.

....aaaaaand I think I've milked this one enough now.

That's certainly the best post so far - the cream of the crop so to speak.
