Ok those that saw my Holy Sculptures Pics/Thread......

I emailed the the Sculpture to show him and he has replied to me......

Dear David,
I would love to use some of your images of the WatTyler carvings for a possible postcard or as an entry in a future catalogue. Where do you stand on this? I have been passing on the photos to photographer friends of mine and they are all impressed. The photographer Robert Broomfield, whose photos will be featured in the WatTyler Park Sculpture Trail book, was particularly impressed with "Distress". The photos have the atmosphere of a David Lean adaptation of a Charles Dickens novel, such as "Great Expectations".
Regards,

What shall I do, how do I price things, how do I negotiate!!!!?

You can see the pics at my flickr.

Thanks,
SB

What shall I do!?

Tell them there is no need for such airy arty codswaffle and just show you the money.;)

It's up to you, I'm notorious for not being very business headed sometimes and have given images to artists I've got along with just because I've enjoyed working/being with them.

You probably already know what you'd like to happen, put it to them and see what happens.

Well the line "would love to use some of your images of the WatTyler carvings for a possible postcard or as an entry in a future catalogue" tells me there is potential, but I dont know what the going rates are etc etc

I don't know if this is a possible starter for 10, Canon licenced one of my images to use for publicity, they paid me 400 Euro (around £300) for a 2 year licence. That means I retain copyright, and they could use my image as they wanted for 2 years.
The only stipulation was that I couldn't offer the image to one of their competitors (e.g. Nikon) during that period.

Thanks.

I have emailed the artist back and asked him on what scale he intends to use my work. Will the work be displayed nationally, in europe, worldwide etc. After all there is only one set of these sculptures in the world and he works accross europe. Im quite nervous actually.

venture.:)

I'm thinking the site needs a faq of some sort giving advice and info on how to assess and price your work. shrimperblue is one of a few members recently who have had to ask these questions.

Well, I am by no means an expert, but if I were you, and wanted my work "out there", I would not be that bothered about the amount, and more interested in getting my work published as an amateur.

I think that might have been my last 2p.

I'd like to second that.. Good luck! Hope it all works out for you. Sorry I can't offer any more advice :)

Yes that would be brilliant. Im really confused. Do I just say the only conditions are my name and email address on all prints or do I charge an amount for the rights etc etc.....

Maybe I should speak to a union??

Thanks for your support :)

SB

NUJ has some guide line prices, I would certainly charge for rights for the usage they want, do people other than other photogs even look at who took the pictures?

Can't offer any advice but good luck with the "venture"
I hope you come to a mutually acceptable agreement

No advice either, but well done! Hope you get a mutually acceptable agreement sorted out.
